How to Make a Rainy Day PROposal in Hawaii Magical!

Hawaii didn't get the nickname "Rainbow state" without a rainy day here and there. Oahu and all of Hawaii is known for its stunning beaches, breathtaking sunsets, and romantic landscapes—making it the perfect place for a dream PROposal. However, with its tropical climate, occasional rain showers are inevitable especially during the rainy season which is November to April. But don’t let a little rain dampen your special moment! With the right planning and mindset, a rainy day PROposal can be even more romantic and unforgettable. And they always say rain on your wedding day is good luck so why not on your PROposal day too, right?! Here’s how to make a rainy day PROposal magical:

1. Embrace the Romance of Rain

A little rain never hurt anyone, right? Rain can actually enhance the magic of your PROposal by adding an intimate and dreamy ambiance. Light drizzles can make the moment feel more cinematic, while a post-rain glow often creates the most stunning skies especially for sunrise or sunset.  Rain can intensify the sunrise and sunset colors for your photos. Think of it as nature’s way of adding a little extra sparkle to your special day.

2. Choose a Versatile Location

When we start planning your PROposal, it’s essential to select a location with flexibility. Consider spots with natural rain cover, such as:

  • A secluded jungle waterfall, where a little rain adds to the adventure

  • A lush botanical garden with a covered gazebo

  • A cliffside overlook where misty rain enhances the view

Also, keep in mind that just becuase it's raining in one part of the island doesn't mean it is raining all over the island

3. Have a Backup Plan

Always prepare for weather changes by having an alternative location. Like I mentioned above, if it’s raining at your original location it may be blue skies half a mile up the road.  We will always be at the location ahead of time preparing for you, with that we will also be checking the weather and decide if the location needs to move.

4. Use Clear Umbrellas or Other Props for Stunning Photos

Your hotel is well versed how to handle rain too, most hotels offer umbrellas for free. Clear umbrellas are not only practical but also look beautiful in PROposal photos. They allow natural light to filter through while keeping you dry, creating a fairytale-like aesthetic. Plus, they make for a fun and stylish prop in your engagement pictures! We can also incorporate a whimsical tropical umbrella like a palm frond.

5. Capture the Moment

Our professional PROposal photographers can turn a rainy PROposal into an ethereal masterpiece. The reflections from puddles, the mist in the air, and the way raindrops catch the light can create incredibly unique and breathtaking engagement photos. If you’re willing to embarrass a little mist we’ll be right there by your side.

7. Have Fun & Go with the Flow

Sometimes, the best moments happen when you fully embrace the unexpected. Dance in the rain, laugh, and enjoy the moment together—because at the end of the day, it’s not about perfect weather, but the love and commitment you’re celebrating.
